Swindon Assistive Technology Service

Welcome to the website for Swindon Assistive Technology Service. This website will give you information about what we do and who we can help as well as offering support to parents/carers and those who support Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs who need Assistive Technology and/or Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).

What is Swindon Assistive Technology Service (SATS)?

Our aim is to improve inclusive opportunities and educational outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs who need Assistive Technology and/or Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).

This service provides support and assistive solutions to aid access and achievement within school for pupils with Special Educational Needs. Schools, Early Years settings, Professionals and Families in Swindon can contact the service directly to talk about a referral, which should be made by the school or educational setting using the Service Referral Form. This must include parent/carer permission for the involvement of the Advisory Teacher.

The Swindon Assistive Technology Service is provided by an Advisory Teacher assisted by a part time technician and an admin team.We are based in the Multi-Agency Unit within the Learning Complex but our service is provided to schools and settings within Swindon.

Joanne Clarke (Advisory Teacher for Assistive Technology) is responsible for the operational management of the team, running of the service and management of special equipment. She is supported by Alison Alcorn, the Service Technician, plus Justine Trueman, admin support.

The team offers a variety of services including assessments, advice, training, support and provision of equipment for pupils with a range of Special Needs to enable access and achievement. Click to view our brochure, levels of intervention and the SATS contribution to the Local Offer
