Work Related Learning
Work related learning aims to develop the practical and personal skills and knowledge required to be able to make choices and act independently as an adult.
At Uplands the approach and activities used may range from developing a sense of being an adult and an awareness of action and consequence to developing real practical skills and knowledge required in the working world and community. This may apply to real work, progress to further education or supported living.
All students have the opportunity to follow a practically based Work Related Learning curriculum as a part of their studies. At Key Stage 3 they follow this curriculum as part of their Science lessons. At KS4 and 5 they study it in modules. The Key Stage 4 and 5 modules are First Aid, Vehicle Maintenance, Retail, Catering, Construction and Enterprise, Animal Care and Horticulture.
The modules are designed to develop their basic knowledge, skills and understanding that are required for the area of work in a safe environment.
